Facade Grant Program

Overview: A financial incentive program to help rehabilitate commercial buildings in Main Street Hanover's Designated District.

Funder: Main Street Hanover, Inc. in partnership with the Borough of Hanover and the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce, with funding from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Keystone Communities program.

Geographic Scope: Main Street Hanover's Designated District in downtown Hanover, PA

Funding Amount:

  • Maximum per project: $5,000 per commercial property per project

  • Match requirement: Dollar-for-dollar match required from applicant

  • Total available in current round: $50,000 in grant funds

  • Historical leverage: Previous round of $40,000 leveraged $106,000 in total facade improvements
  • Eligibility:

  • Qualified commercial property owners within the Main Street Hanover Designated District

  • Business tenants within the designated district
  • Project Requirements:

  • Projects must follow MSH Downtown Design Guidelines

  • Projects cannot begin before final approval from the Design Committee

  • Work must be paid for by property owner or business tenant at time of completion; facade grant funds provided as reimbursement

    Application Process

    Deadline: All applications due May 31 annually. Applications submitted by that date will be reviewed in June. Applications submitted after May 31 will be rolled into the next application round.

    2. Submit via email to jtrucksess@mainstreethanover.org, OR
    3. Submit in person at Main Street Office, 146 Carlisle St., Hanover, PA

    Application Timeline:
    1. Complete and submit application by May 31
    2. Design Committee reviews applications in June
    3. Approval decisions made at monthly Design Committee meetings (first Thursday of each month)
    4. If application is complete, approval typically happens during one meeting
    5. Incomplete applications require additional review time
