F.G. Wood Memorial Scholarship Award

Funder: Society for Marine Mammalogy

Purpose

Created in honor of F.G. Wood, one of the Society's founding members who was a strong proponent of the importance of students in marine mammalogy. The award recognizes excellence in scholarship by students.

    Award Criteria

  • Awarded for the best student paper published in the Society's journal Marine Mammal Science during the two-year period between conferences
  • Recipient delivers a plenary talk at the Biennial Conference

  • 2015: Dr. Trish Lavery, Department of the Environment (Australia) for the paper "Whales sustain fisheries: Blue whales stimulate primary production in the Southern Ocean"
