Background: Eugene T. Mahoney State Park has been a popular recreation destination for the urban population of eastern Nebraska and beyond. The park experiences high traffic and has ongoing needs for upgrades, improvements, additional land, more activities, and expanded lodging.

Funder Purpose: To promote, provide, preserve and manage within the State of Nebraska parks, recreation areas, historical parks and structures, wildlife management areas, rest stops, open spaces, camping areas, agricultural lands, game and fish hatcheries, natural resources, scenic areas, habitat areas, conservation and ecological areas, game farms, recreation grounds and waters.
