Overview

Eugene P. Odum Award for Excellence in Ecology Education

Purpose: Celebrates sustained, outstanding work in ecology education. Through teaching, outreach, mentoring and/or other educational scholarship activities, recipients have demonstrated exceptional abilities to help others learn about ecology and its relevance to humanity.

Eligibility:

  • Achievements in education in universities, K–12 schools, and other contexts are all encouraged

  • Nominations of women and minority candidates are encouraged

  • ESA members preferred
  • Award includes:

  • $1,000 cash award

  • $700 travel award

  • Special trophy
  • Background: Introduced in 2000. Award was generously endowed by and named for distinguished ecologist Eugene P. Odum.

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Required Materials:

  • Letter of nomination (not to exceed 2 pages)

  • Curriculum vitae (at most 4 pages) focusing on nominee's education-related activities

  • One required letter of support (not to exceed 2 pages)

  • One or two additional letters of support (each not to exceed 2 pages)

  • Optional supplemental files (not to exceed 10 pages) providing evidence and artifacts of the nominee's relevant education activities, especially those not publicly available
  • Submission: All submissions must be submitted through the online awards submission site.
