It fosters growth, creativity and innovation. A community makes life better—and that’s what Enbridge Fueling Futures is all about. We exist to help fuel quality of life within communities where we work and operate in North America, but it’s more than just the energy we deliver, it’s the energy we put in. Through Enbridge Fueling Futures, we’re listening—and we’re acting—in communities across North America. We’re energizing communities, through the volunteerism and generosity of our employees, and through strategic donations and sponsorships that strengthen the safety, vibrancy and sustainability of where we live. Safe Community First Responder Program Small communities all across Canada and the U.S. rely on fire departments, ambulance services, and other emergency responders to keep them safe. Money is perennially tight, especially in rural municipalities with a small tax base, and equipment that could enhance the capabilities of these first responders is a luxury for some communities. Recognizing that, in 2002 Enbridge launched its Safe Community First Responder program specifically for first responders providing safety along the company’s rights-of-way. The program awards grants for safety equipment, professional training, or safety education programs to emergency response organizations including fire departments, emergency medical and rescue services, emergency management organizations, 9-1-1 centers, ambulance services and law enforcement organizations. . The safety of the communities near our projects and operations, and the people who live and work along our system, remain our highest priority. That’s why we’re proud to support the organizations that help keep communities safe. Our Safe Community First Responder program expanded to Canada in 2009 and has invested about US$22.2 million (C$29.1 million) in North American emergency responder organizations since its inception—including US$2.2 million (C$3 million) to 284 emergency response organizations across North America in 2024. Funding On average, grant awards are between $1,000 to $10,000 in funding. If you are a national organization that impacts multiple regions, you may be eligible for a higher level of support. Requests will be considered for funding toward safety equipment such as rescue sleds, firefighting apparatus and/or tools, communications and training technologies, personal protective equipment (PPE), boats, ATVs, vehicles, flashlights, automated external defibrillators (AEDs), or HAZMAT or related training.
