Emmet Housing Solutions Fund

Purpose: Help overcome barriers to building homes by providing grants and loans to nonprofit organizations and local government agencies actively working on housing.

Geographic Scope: Emmet County, MI

Eligible Applicants:

• Nonprofit organizations
• Local government agencies
• Organizations actively working on housing in Emmet County

Focus Areas:

• Land acquisition costs
• Material costs
• Legal and engineering fees
• Designs and site plans
• Infrastructure development
• Community land trusts
• Habitat development projects

Barriers Addressed:

• Land acquisition costs
• Material costs
• Labor shortages
• Local zoning restrictions
• Uncertainty and perceived risk at pre-development stage
• Limited capacity of local organizations and municipalities

Funding Type: The fund makes both grants and loans and actively partners with others to leverage additional resources.

• Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity (infrastructure at Habitat build sites in Oden and Alanson)
• Northern Homes Community Development Corporation (support for Harbor Area Residential Trust community land trust)
• Lofts at Lumber Square project (60-unit apartment building in downtown Petoskey area)
