Emerging Artist Program

Overview:
The Emerging Artist Program is part of the Creating Queer Community initiative and provides commissions for emerging artists to create or curate performance/exhibition segments as part of the National Queer Arts Festival.

Award Structure:

  • Self-portraiture in contemporary art forms

  • Community representation and identity

  • Fresh and unique artistic perspectives on the artist or their community

  • LGBTQ artistic expression across all mediums

  • Emerging LGBTQ artists

  • Individual artists and collectives

  • Artists with history of creating for LGBTQ communities (preferred)

  • Background:
    QCC was founded 20 years ago by artists and activists to give voice to under-represented artists of the LGBTQ community. The first exhibition, FACE – Queerness in Self-Portraiture, established the foundation for celebrating difference and justice through queer art.

  • Required Information:
    1. Lead Artist information (name, phone, email, city of residence, website)
    2. Group/Collective Name (if applicable)
    3. Collaborating Artist names and emails
    4. Project description
    5. History of work with LGBTQ communities
    6. CV or resume (optional)

    Application Questions:
    1. Project Description (One Page Maximum, 12pt font):
    - Describe your project concept
    - Explain how your project relates to the current theme
    - Discuss how you will use the 15-20 minutes to further develop the project or your career

    2. Community Experience:
    - Describe any history of creating arts events for LGBTQ communities
    - Provide details or links to past performances/projects

    3. Supporting Materials:
    - Attach CV or resume if it demonstrates your art history (optional)

    Evaluation Criteria:

  • Artistic integrity and originality

  • Alignment with NQAF theme

  • Potential impact on LGBTQ community

  • Applicant's capacity to complete the project
  • Peer Review:

  • Adjudication by peer-review panel composed of QCC's Artistic Director and personnel
