What We Do The community foundation is like the community’s charitable savings account. We pool resources from community members, invest them and then use them to make grants for the betterment of the entire community. We exist to serve donors, nonprofit organizations and the community as a whole. Donors to ACCF enjoy tax advantages not available to private foundation donors. They also receive professional services without hiring staff. Nonprofit organizations receive grants from community foundations to support their programs and projects. Many nonprofits also establish their own endowment funds with the foundation as a means of investing for the future. We’re also engaged as a community leader. We help set the vision for Ashland County while ensuring charitable gifts are used effectively to meet the community’s present needs and to build a brighter future. Elizabeth Pastor Ashland University Music Education Scholarship The Elizabeth Pastor Ashland University Music Education Scholarship Fund was created through the estate plan of Elizabeth Pastor to support music students at Ashland University. Pastor believed in the timeless quality of great art and felt blessed to have music and art as a vital part of her life. “There is nothing more complex or beautiful in its simplicity than a musical phrase or more moving than a powerful work of art,” she said. Pastor was well known locally as an exceptional pianist and educator as well as a leader at Ashland College/University, where she taught piano from 1948 to 2015. She received her artist diploma from Boston’s Longy School of Music and made her debut at Town Hall, New York. She made solo appearances with leading orchestras throughout the country, including the Cleveland Orchestra, the NBC Symphony in New York, the Boston Pops, the Las Vegas Philharmonic and Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, as well as various orchestras in Ohio. She also supported the Ashland Symphony Orchestra from its rebirth in 1970 until her death on November 3, 2018.Eligibility
