Venture Philanthropy Model: EBRP employs a venture philanthropy model for all funded projects (unless specific waiver granted). The organization negotiates a financial interest in funded research. If research leads to commercially successful therapy, returns are used to fund additional EB research.

    Eligible Project Types

  • Clinical trial work (strongly preferred)

  • Localized or systemic benefit approaches
  • Research-enabling tools (data collection/analysis platforms to accelerate clinical trials)

    Project Selection Criteria

    Research projects should:
  • Be designed to result in creation of EB therapies with aim of commercialization within 1-4 years
  • Prioritize approaches leading to meaningful step changes in quality of life and/or curative aims
  • Include thoughts around commercial sustainability
  • Not be concerned primarily with basic or open-ended research without intention to lead directly to commercially feasible EB therapies

    Funding Restrictions

  • Indirect costs limited to 5%
  • Venture philanthropy model applies (unless waiver granted)
  • Requires documentation of Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and Human Subjects approvals when necessary

    Compliance

  • EBRP abides by Whistleblower Policy and Anti-Corruption Policy
  • Evaluation by EBRP's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
  • Final selection by EBRP's Executive Board
  • Research contracts established with host institution(s) upon approval

How to Apply

Application Process

1. Submit application via EBRP's grants management system (online portal)
2. Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) evaluation - Applications evaluated and scored by SAB
3. Executive Board review - Based on SAB evaluation, scoring, and other criteria, EBRP's Executive Board selects projects for funding
4. Additional information requests - Any request by EBRP for additional information should not be considered as Notice of Grant Award or indicator of possible award
5. Contract establishment - Upon approval and if not already in place, EBRP establishes research contracts with host institution(s)
6. Grant agreement - Grants awarded subject to EBRP Grant Guidelines
