Doors of Opportunity Award

Overview: An annual award honoring a Vashon Island School District (VISD) educator who exemplifies exceptional spirit, grit, and dedication that goes beyond their job description, opening doors and maximizing student potential.

History: Established in 1998 and created/endowed by Benita and Charlie Staadecker. Charlie served many years on the VISD school board.

Eligibility:

  • VISD educators only

  • Nominated by peers

  • Award winner determined by input from district staff, school families, and community
  • Award Details:

  • Amount: $2,000 total ($1,000 for recipient's personal use + $1,000 for their field of work or department)
  • Geographic Scope: Vashon Island, Washington
