Discover SMCM Grant

Overview: One-time grant to prospective students who visit St. Mary's College of Maryland's waterfront campus, rewarding prospective students for taking time to discover what makes SMCM special.

Award Amount:

MD/DC Residents: $1,000

- $500 applied to first semester bill
- $500 applied to second semester bill

Non-MD/DC Residents: $2,000

- $1,000 applied to first semester bill
- $1,000 applied to second semester bill

Eligibility:

Must schedule and complete an official campus visit by:

- December 1, 2025 (for Spring or Fall 2026 semester entry)
- December 1, 2026 (for Spring or Fall 2027 semester entry)

Must be admitted to SMCM

Must enroll as a full-time student

Retroactive Application:

Grant is retroactively applied if student visited during junior or senior year of high school

For transfer students, grant applies if visit was in the year before enrolling

All other requirements must still be met

Campus Visit Options:

Daily visits: Monday through Friday and select Saturdays

- Brief information session with Admission Counselor
- Walking tour led by student ambassadors

Open Houses: Full experience including faculty meetings, residence hall tours, student engagement, and award-winning brunch (e.g., April 25)

Campus: 360-acre waterfront campus in St. Mary's City, Maryland

Geographic Scope: All prospective students (MD/DC residents and non-residents)

How to Apply for Discover SMCM Grant

1. Schedule and complete an official campus visit
- Daily visits available Monday–Friday and select Saturdays
- Open House events available (including April 25)
- Contact: admissions@smcm.edu or (240) 895-5000

2. Apply to St. Mary's College of Maryland
- Complete standard admission application
- Application fee: Free for STEP participants; standard fee for others

3. Receive admission decision
- Confirm admission to SMCM

4. Enroll as a full-time student
- Accept admission and enroll
- Grant is automatically applied to first-year charges

5. Grant disbursement
- For MD/DC residents: $500 on first semester bill; $500 on second semester bill
- For non-MD/DC residents: $1,000 on first semester bill; $1,000 on second semester bill

Retroactive Option (No Additional Application Required):

If you have already visited campus during your junior or senior year of high school (or for transfer students, the year before enrolling), inform admissions and the grant will be retroactively applied provided all requirements are met.
