Overview

Mission The American Antiquarian Society (AAS) cultivates a deeper understanding of the American past, grounded in its ever-growing collection of printed and manuscript sources. The Society fosters a broad community of inquiry through inclusive programs and generous support of scholarship. Diana Korzenik Virtual Research Fellowship The American Antiquarian Society has a virtual fellowship program intended to address the equity and access issues faced by a range of scholars in using the research collections. These virtual fellowships will be offered as a bridge to assist those scholars who cannot work onsite at AAS in moving forward with their work. The experience for Diana Korzenik Virtual Fellows will reflect the onsite fellowship experience as much as possible. For three months, fellows will have access to digitized collections, both free and paywall-protected; a designated staff member will connect them with materials (via document camera) and with readers’ services staff and/or curators who can advise and assist in their research. Fellows will participate in fellows’ talks, currently offered only via Zoom. AAS will facilitate interaction between and among all fellows, on and off site.

This fellowship is awarded to individuals engaged in scholarly research and writing - - including doctoral dissertations - - in any field of American history and culture through 1900.Postdoctoral scholars and graduate studentsAcademic research fellowship applicants may come from such fields as history, literature, American studies, political science, art history, music history, and others relating to America before 1900. CriteriaFellows are selected on the basis of: the applicant’s scholarly qualifications, the scholarly significance or importance of the project, and the appropriateness of the proposed study to the Society’s collections.Foreign nationals who have been residents in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline for the fellowship are eligible.
