This fellowship is awarded to an individual engaged in scholarly research and writing- including doctoral dissertations--in any field of American history and culture through 1900.Postdoctoral scholars and graduate studentsAcademic research fellowship applicants may come from such fields as history, literature, American studies, political science, art history, music history, and others relating to America before 1900. CriteriaFellows are selected on the basis of: the applicant’s scholarly qualifications, the scholarly significance or importance of the project, and the appropriateness of the proposed study to the Society’s collections.Foreign nationals who have been residents in the United States for at least three years immediately preceding the application deadline for the fellowship are eligible.
