Overview
Delta Dental of Kentucky created the Delta Dental of Kentucky Foundation to support its mission of ensuring every Kentuckian has a healthy and happy smile. Every year the Foundation funds programs and services that improve the oral health and quality of life of people across the Commonwealth. Since 2015 more than $28 million has been donated to projects and non-profit organizations in Kentucky.
The Foundation directs at least 70% of its dollars each year to dental treatment and oral healthcare education, supporting more than 25 dental clinics across Kentucky. The remaining 30% goes to Kentucky non-profits providing general community support such as arts education, cancer research, and individual and family services. Kentucky ranks as one of the poorest states in the country for oral health, and the Foundation gives preference to organizations and initiatives focused on improving oral health, particularly for those most at risk and in need.
Applications for the 2027 grant funding year opened on Monday 17 August at 9:00am ET. Decisions are communicated to all applicants in December.
How to Apply
To apply, your organization must be registered in the Foundation's Grant Funding Portal — register there first, then apply.
To be eligible you must be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (or working for community benefit), serve or benefit individuals and communities within the state of Kentucky, and submit a proposal that clearly advances oral health care in Kentucky.
Specifically excluded are individuals; organizations that discriminate by race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, disability, veteran status or national origin; political activities, organizations or campaigns; loans; projects developed for commercial or proprietary purposes; and past grantees that failed to provide charitable contribution surveys or other requested documentation.
New and current grant recipients must complete a service value worksheet and a grant report once the project is finished or the funds are spent — the Foundation supplies the forms, emails them to grantees by 31 December, and reports are due by 15 February of the following funding year. Recipients also work with Delta Dental of Kentucky to promote the partnership through media, organization materials and social media.
