Debra McRae Scholarship Fund for Environmental Studies

Purpose: Support future environmental leaders by honoring Debra McRae, Wehr Nature Center's third director who served over 30 years and retired in 2020.

Award Details:

Minimum Award: A minimum of two scholarships of at least $1,500 each will be awarded in the 2025/2026 school year

Award Frequency: Annual

First Award: 2021/22 school year

Geographic Scope: Wisconsin residents only

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

Be a graduating high school senior

Be accepted as a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking student at an accredited 4-year college or university

Be a current resident of Wisconsin

Be pursuing a major in a field related to the environment, such as (but not limited to):

- Environmental science
- Environmental education
- Environmental engineering
- Sustainability
- Natural resources
- Wildlife conservation
- Environmental policy

Exhibit dedication to the environment through community service activities and extracurricular involvement

Selection Criteria:
A committee of Wehr Nature Center staff and Friends of Wehr board members judge applicants based on:

Student's involvement in environmental-focused clubs and activities

Coursework

Volunteer service

Award Announcement & Recognition:

Scholarship recipient is announced in May

Recipient is invited to attend a Friends of Wehr board meeting to receive their award
