Our History The Amarillo Area Foundation’s history began in 1957 with a dream and a challenge to address the healthcare needs facing the Texas Panhandle. Scholarships The foundation offers a variety of scholarships for different colleges/universities and fields of study and eligibility for scholarships is based on the student’s county of residence, planned college or university, and/or anticipated field of study. While most of the scholarship funds available are for graduating high school seniors, there are a few funds available for currently enrolled college students. We highly recommend you check for scholarships for which you are eligible BEFORE beginning the application process. The Foundation requires submission of a general online application form for most of its funds, which can be accessed in early January. Deaf Smith Electrical Scholarship, Inc. The Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative (DSEC) Scholarship Fund will provide a one-time scholarship to students who plan to attend an accredited state-supported university, private university, junior college, or vocational school. Eligible applicants must be a member of DSEC or dependent of an active member of DSEC that resides with the active member; or be a dependent of a DSEC employee. High school seniors, as well as any student or prospective student who has not previously received this scholarship, will be eligible to apply. Eligible Counties: Castro, Deaf Smith, Oldham, and Parmer County.

The following applicant eligibility applies to any new Scholarship Fund: Applicants must complete the Amarillo Area Foundation’s General Scholarship Application. Applicants must reside within the Foundation’s service area or the geographic area specified by the Scholarship Fund Agreement, if differentThe following policies apply to scholarship recipients:Scholarship recipients must enroll in the fall semester immediately following award and remain consecutively enrolled for the term of the scholarship unless specified otherwise. Scholarship recipients must maintain full-time enrollment (12 credit hours per semester for undergraduate, 6 credit hours per semester for graduate studies)The Foundation reserves the right to withdraw its Scholarship Awards under certain circumstances, including but not limited to:Recipient must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA as specified in the Scholarship Fund Criteria (default: 2.5 on a 4.0 scale if unspecified). Recipient must attend the specified college/university if dictated by the Scholarship Fund Criteria; otherwise, they may attend any qualified institution. Recipient must major in the field of study specified in the Scholarship Fund Criteria.
