Program Purpose:
Funding for riverfront park development, blight remediation, and community access to the Monongahela River.

DCNR Recreation and Conservation grant program funded with variety of state and federal sources including:

• Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund (Key 93)
  • Key-Community component
  • Key-Land Trust component
• Environmental Stewardship Fund (ESF)

Project Scope - Charleroi Riverfront Park Development:
Funding used in conjunction with matching grant from Washington County Local Share Account Program for:

• Widen boat launch area
• Install boat and trailer parking lot
• Construct retaining walls
• Add ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) accessibility
• Landscaping installation
• Project signage
• Related site improvements

Prior Work Completed:

• Installation of EZ Dock canoe and kayak accessible launch
• Resurfacing of existing public boat ramp
• Partnership with Mon Valley Initiative for riverfront landscaping

Project Partners:

• Washington County Redevelopment Authority
• River Town Program (project of National Road Heritage Corridor)
• Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation (supported broader riverfront initiatives - $4M+ raised over 8 years)
• Charleroi Borough Council
