Overview

Dave Goldberg Scholars Program

Overview: An annual scholarship program honoring the life and legacy of Dave Goldberg by providing exceptional KIPP graduates with financial support and mentorship throughout college.

Geographic Scope: National (KIPP schools across all regions)

Funding Partner: Sandberg Goldberg Bernthal Family Foundation

Award Details:

  • Financial Support: Stipends for critical expenses outside of tuition and room & board necessary for successful college career

  • Total Award: Up to $60,000 per scholar

  • Number of Scholars: Up to 15 KIPP graduates selected annually

    • Support Provided:

  • Mentorship from a dedicated Goldberg Mentor providing advice and ongoing support throughout college

  • Access to Goldberg Connectors network of professionals who help secure summer internships and job opportunities

  • Invitation to attend annual leadership weekend for professional development, skill building, and networking with other scholars, mentors, and industry influencers

    • Eligibility:

  • KIPP high school seniors

  • Seniors who graduated from a KIPP middle school

  • Must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement

  • DACA/Dreamer status applicants encouraged to apply

    • Status: Active and accepting applications

    Application Timeline (2023-24):

  • October 2, 2023: Application opens for students

  • October 3, 2023: Application opens for recommenders

  • October-November: Suggested timeline to review application and request recommendations

  • November-December: Suggested timeline to draft essays

  • January 10: Optional Application Support Virtual Workshop

  • February 2, 2024: Student application deadline (11:59pm PST)

  • February 5, 2024: Recommendation submission deadline (11:59pm PST)

  • February-March: Review Committee evaluates applications

  • By mid-April: Recipients notified

    Application Process

    Required Materials:
    1. Completed application form
    2. Two recommendation letters (required)
    - Recommenders must be teachers, counselors, mentors, or individuals not related to applicant
    - Must speak to applicant's qualifications for scholarship
    - Submission deadline: February 5, 2024 (11:59pm PST)
    3. Essays (required - specific to each scholarship program)
    4. Transcript
    5. Resume

    Application Support:

  • Optional virtual workshop available (January 10 for 2023-24 cycle)

  • Video resources available: "How to Ask for a Letter of Recommendation Over Email" and "How to Write a Scholarship Essay in 7 Tips"

  • Resume template and sample student resumes provided

    • Key Dates:

  • Application Period: October 2, 2023 - February 2, 2024 (11:59pm PST)

  • Recommendation Period: October 3, 2023 - February 5, 2024 (11:59pm PST)

  • Results: Notified by mid-April
