Research Fellowships for ASOR Members
ASOR provides research funding for members through the Study of Collections Fellowships, Dar Ben Gacem Tunisian Fellowships, Herbert Warren Mason Fellowships, and Mesopotamian Fellowships.
Dar Ben Gacem Tunisian Fellowship
ASOR is pleased to announce a fellowship for ASOR members (from any country other than Tunisia) to conduct research in Tunisia.
Made possible by a generous donor and the Dar Ben Gacem historic guest houses in Tunis, Tunisia, this research fellowship provides room and half board (breakfast and dinner) for up to four weeks at one of the two Dar Ben Gacem guest houses in the Medina of Tunis. Accommodation dates are subject to room availability and should be negotiated with Dar Ben Gacem after the successful applicant has been chosen. Research topics include history, archaeology, cultural heritage (both tangible and intangible), religion, ethnography, and museum collection(s). Research topics should fit into ASOR’s Annual Meeting program, and the successful applicant will be expected to share the research outcome in a future virtual or in-person (or both) ASOR Annual Meeting. Near the end of their residency in Tunis, successful applicant(s) will be asked to share preliminary outcomes of their research for interested community members at Dar Ben Gacem. Fellowship awardees are responsible for arranging their own travel to Tunisia, as well as other expenses while in Tunisia. Awardees are also responsible for obtaining visa(s) or research permissions, and fellowships will not be finalized until ASOR receives confirmation of these permissions and authorizations. ASOR reserves the right to select an alternate recipient if visa(s) or authorizations cannot be obtained in a timely manner.
