Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Program for Adult Care Excellence (PACE) Grant

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Program for Adult Care Excellence (PACE) aims to enhance adult care for cystic fibrosis patients by recruiting and training physicians. With an increasing life expectancy for CF patients, the program addresses the need for specialized adult caregivers. Physicians can apply for funding up to $38,435 per year for three years, enabling them to develop expertise in adult CF care. This initiative supports both the medical community and the CF population significantly.

Program and Award Overview
As the average life expectancy of patients with CF continues to increase, the CF Foundation recognizes the growing demand for physicians trained to address the unique medical needs of adult patients with CF and the need for greater participation from adult care programs in the clinical research enterprise. The CF Foundation will recruit another cohort of caregivers to the Program for Adult Care Excellence (PACE) in order to expand the scope of adult care programs by increasing the number of adult caregivers. Accordingly, CFF has released this Request for Applications (RFA) for PACE training awards to physicians interested in developing expertise in the care of adult patients with CF.
Funding Amounts
Applicants may request up to $38,435 per year, for three (3) years, plus an additional twelve percent (12%) of indirect costs may be requested, per year. The total funding request may include:
Salary of up to 0.15 FTE using the federal salary cap ($225,700 in 2025) plus fringe benefits for the applicantTravel of up to $4,500/year for NACFC and any in-person PACE meetingsNACFC registration of $650/year

Eligibility

All applicants must be either a citizen of the United States or legal resident of the United States with career plans to remain working in the United States.Applicants must be physicians trained in Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics or Family Medicine. Applicants must have less than 5 years of clinical experience in CF Care, exclusive of training.Applicants whose primary focus is on primary care are encouraged to apply in addition to adult pulmonologists.The sponsoring institution must have a CFF-accredited CF Care Center with an existing adult CF program or meet the requirements for an adult program (at least 20 CF patients 18 years of age or older).Applications from for-profit entities may (under select circumstances) be considered through this program.

Previous PACE awardees are ineligible to apply, unless award was relinquished due to change of institutions.
