Geographic Scope: Los Angeles County

Funding Source: American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) relief and recovery programs; LA County Department of Arts and Culture

Purpose: To support COVID-19 recovery in nonprofit arts and cultural organizations and the creative economy, one of the hardest-hit sectors during the pandemic

Focus Areas: Arts and culture with five specific funding tracks addressing key field needs

Eligible Applicants:

LA County-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations

Model A fiscally sponsored organizations

Arts-focused organizations or those with demonstrated history of arts programming

Organizations with headquarters or primary program location in or within one mile of Highest Need and High Need census tracts (per LA County's COVID-19 Vulnerability and Recovery Index)

Priority: Organizations disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, communities of color, organizations facing barriers, those with historic disinvestment, and those experiencing systemic inequity

Award Structure: Applicants could apply for up to five grant opportunities through a single, streamlined application process

Five Grant Opportunities:
1. Arts Relief and Recovery Grant
2. Creative Works and Jobs for Artists Grant
3. Reopening Culture, Tourism and Marketing Grant
4. Creative Career Pathways for Youth Grant
5. Arts for Justice-Involved Youth Grant

Award Amounts: Varied based on number of applications received, priority geographic location, applicant's organizational or programming budget size, and available funding

Applicants did not need to be current or prior grantees of the Department of Arts and Culture

Support provided through virtual and in-person application workshops throughout LA County (January and early February 2023)

Total funding: Over $26 million in one-time federal funding

Aims to address pandemic impacts while leveraging arts' capacity to catalyze economic recovery, civic connectivity, and community wellbeing

Strategic preparation for 2028 Olympics
