Courtney S. Turner Charitable Trust Mission The Courtney S. Turner Charitable Trust was created (under a will dated August 25, 1978) for the furtherance and development of public charitable and educational purposes. Courtney S. Turner was born March 1st, 1896 in Atchison, Kansas to C.F.A. and Georgia Pierce Turner, two of the Atchison’s pioneer residents. Mr. Turner attended Atchison Public Schools and earned his first dime at the age of 6 as a substitute carrier for the Atchison Globe. He then had a distinguished career in the military and later achieved great success in both finance and real estate. He returned to Atchison in 1968, where he spent the remaining 18 years of his life. He was well known in the community for his philanthropic contributions throughout the city. The legacy of his charitable trust continues to play an important role in the development and growth of the Atchison, Kansas area.
