American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS) The American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation advances excellence in ear, nose, throat, and related head and neck care by funding education, research, and quality improvement in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery. Its mission is to support high-quality, evidence-informed, equitable care through professional and public education, research, and health policy work, with a vision of being the global leader in optimizing patient outcomes in the specialty. The Foundation’s funding priorities include research grants (such as CORE and other research support), humanitarian and international programs, diversity and health policy initiatives, scholarships, and other grants that strengthen the science, ethical practice, and impact of the field. CORE Funding: AHNS Presidential Award: Defining and Implementing Value-Based Care in Head and Neck Cancer he American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery Foundation is seeking proposals that advance value-based care in head and neck oncology by improving quality, efficiency, and patient outcomes. In response to increasing complexity in cancer care and evolving reimbursement models, including those driven by CMS, the program prioritizes data-driven approaches that demonstrate measurable improvements in outcomes and/or cost savings.Proposals must strengthen one or more components of a comprehensive value-based framework, including: quality measures (e.g., treatment timelines, resource utilization, cost reduction), process measures (adherence to evidence-based guidelines and best practices), and outcome measures (improvements in surgical, clinical, or cost-related outcomes). Applicants must clearly identify care gaps and provide benchmarking against institutional, regional, and national standards. Priority areas may include behavioral health integration in head and neck care, AI-driven cost reduction strategies, innovative value-based contracting models, clinic workflow reform, automation, and multidisciplinary care integration. Strong proposals will demonstrate scalable, comparative, and evidence-based strategies that enhance both quality and value in head and neck cancer care.

Eligibility

Applicants must reside in the U.S. or Canada and be medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students, PhDs, or faculty members at the rank of associate professor or below. All applicants must be members of the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) in good standing. Trainee applicants (medical students, residents, fellows, and graduate students) are expected to have appropriate faculty support and mentorship. Previous AHNS or AAO-HNSF research grant recipients are eligible to apply.Applicants who submit proposals to multiple funding sources for the same project and are notified of an award from both AHNS and another agency must choose only one award. Applications submitted by ineligible principal investigators will not be reviewed by the CORE Study Section. You must be a member of this organization to apply for this award - become a member.

Ineligibility

Applicants who have successfully obtained funding from a private or federal agency for the same research project are not eligible.
