Overview

Continuing Medical Education Scholarship

Purpose: Provides limited scholarships for qualified applicants in continuing medical education.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a resident of Kansas

  • Must be employed as part-time or full-time:

  • - Registered Nurse
    - Licensed Practical Nurse
    - Pharmacist
    - Therapist

    Award Amount: Maximum of $600 per award

    Frequency: One scholarship award per person in a 12-month period

    What is Funded:

  • Continuing education courses

  • Certification classes (excluding examination costs)

  • Conferences offering continuing medical education credit

  • Conferences related to direct patient care

  • Travel for actual costs (airfare, mileage)

  • Virtual and online continuing education offerings (subject to same criteria)
  • What is NOT Funded:

  • Examination costs for certification classes

  • Conferences not offering continuing medical education credit

  • Conferences not related to direct patient care
  • Geographic Scope: Kansas residents

  • How to Apply

    Application Process

    1. Complete the WMREF Scholarship application
    2. Submit application by the 15th of each month
    3. Include a copy of the conference brochure with the application
    4. Applicants will be notified of award via email

    Scholarship Requirements

    • Applications must be received by the 15th of each month
    • Copy of conference brochure must accompany application
    • Applications accepted for continuing education only
    • Certification classes eligible (examination costs not covered)
    • Conferences must offer continuing medical education credit
    • Conferences must relate to direct patient care
    • One scholarship per person per 12-month period
    • Maximum two scholarships per institution per conference

    Definition of Direct Patient Care

    Direct patient care is defined as care of a patient provided personally by a staff member. This may include aspects such as treatments, counseling, self-care, patient education, and dispensing of medicine.
