Geographic Scope: Central Texas (Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties)
Overview: This Request for Ideas (RFI) seeks to identify organizations interested in implementing intergenerational programs that bring different age groups together in purposeful, mutually beneficial activities to improve community cohesion, child well-being, and promote healthy outcomes for all ages.
Background: The Foundation's five-county service area has roughly 200,000 people aged 65 or older, projected to quadruple to over 800,000 by 2050. The program emphasizes reciprocity—that older adults and youth serve as resources to one another.
Funding Categories:
- Maximum Award: Up to $20,000 per year for 2 years
- Description: For organizations implementing intergenerational work to address any identified community issue
- Requirements: Do not require full-time staffing
- Eligible Uses: Initial research, needs assessments, site visits, project planning, marketing, programmatic costs, volunteer support, staff time
- Funding Structure: One-time funding for 24-month period; follow-up funding not guaranteed but may be considered
Tier One – Innovation Grants
- Maximum Award: Up to $100,000 per year for 2 years
- Description: Prioritized for organizations focusing on: (1) engaging older adults to support early childhood brain development, (2) mitigating toxic stress in low-income families with children, and/or (3) projects in rural communities
- Funding Structure: One-time funding for 24 months; subsequent funding not guaranteed but may be invited for re-procurement
- Competitiveness: Applications are much more competitive than Tier One
- Award Expectations: Fewer Tier Two grants awarded; larger number of Tier One grants
Tier Two – Strategic Grants
Eligibility: Tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations and public entities
