Congo Education Partners Grant

Grant supporting Congo Education Partners' mission to protect Congo's rainforest and improve lives through higher education in sustainable agriculture, forest conservation, nursing, and public health.

Geographic Scope: Democratic Republic of Congo (Tshuapa Province); focus on Congo Basin Rainforest (60% located in DRC)

Program Description:
Grant funding for Congo Education Partners (CEP) to support Djolu Technical College (DTC), the only accredited higher education institution providing programs in agricultural and environmental science in Tshuapa Province. DTC is a regional center for excellence in education, research, and community outreach.

Focus Areas:

• Higher education in sustainable agriculture
• Forest conservation and rainforest protection
• Nursing and public health
• Women's education and leadership
• Capacity building for local educators
• Scholarships for women students

Grant Purposes:

1. Faculty Salary Support: Funding professor salaries at DTC, particularly following Congo's 2023 education system reforms requiring faculty master's degrees
2. Women Student Scholarships: Providing scholarships to women students to overcome financial, cultural, and social barriers to higher education

Eligibility - Programs Funded:

• Djolu Technical College (DTC) operations
• Women students at DTC main campus (Djolu) and satellite campuses (Kokolopori, Lingomo)
• Professors and faculty at accredited institutions in Tshuapa Province

Recent Support:

• Bijou Longenge scholarship: Planet Women supported her Bachelor's degree (completed late 2023); CEP supporting her MSc studies 2025-2027
• 16+ women scholarships currently funded at DTC
• Support for additional women scholarships at satellite campuses

Application Process

For Women Student Scholarships:

1. Eligibility Requirements:
   • Female students seeking higher education at Djolu Technical College or satellite campuses
   • Commitment to environmental, agricultural, or health-related studies
   • Financial need demonstrated
   • Students from Tshuapa Province and surrounding regions prioritized
