Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund: Educator Endorsements Grant

The Iowa Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund supports Iowa school districts and accredited nonpublic school systems in providing tuition reimbursement for teachers pursuing computer science endorsements. Established to enhance computer science education, the fund aids schools in offering essential courses by July 1, 2019. Eligible applicants can receive up to $705 per credit and a textbook allowance of up to $300, promoting high-quality instructional capabilities in computer science.

NOTE: Applicants will be notified on a rolling basis for approval. Applications will be accepted through the close date or until associated funds have been expended. First come, first served.
Iowa Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund
The Iowa Computer Science Professional Development Incentive Fund was established to assist schools in meeting the goal of the General Assembly, that by July 1, 2019, each accredited high school offer at least one high-quality computer science course, each accredited middle school offer instruction in exploratory computer science, and each accredited elementary school offer instruction in the basics of computer science.
The goal of this grant program is to build the capacity of Iowa schools to provide high quality computer science instruction. Funds must be used to supplement, not supplant, funds that would otherwise be used for the activities supported by the program.
Grant funds are made available to eligible Iowa school districts, accredited nonpublic school systems, or collaboratives, in a year in which funds are appropriated by the Iowa Legislature, for the following purpose:
A school district or accredited nonpublic school may apply to the department to receive moneys from the fund to provide tuition reimbursement for Iowa teachers seeking endorsements or authorizations for computer science or 5-12 CTE Information Technology under [Iowa Code] section 272.2, subsection 20.

Eligibility

Eligible Applicants All Iowa public school districts and all Iowa accredited nonpublic school systems.To be considered allowable for reimbursement, costs must meet the following general criteria: be necessary and reasonable for proper and efficient operation of the project; be permissible under applicable state and/or federal laws and regulations; conform to any limitations or exclusions set forth in these guidelines, laws or regulations, or other governing limitations as to types or amounts of cost items; be net after applying all applicable credits, such as purchase discounts, project-generated income, and adjustments of overpayments; must not be included as a cost in any other project or grant; and be supported by appropriate documentation.

Ineligibility

Individual public schools cannot apply.Mileage, stipends and substitute fees are NOT permitted.Grant award moneys may not be used to pay for costs that are allocated costs or that are considered indirect costs or overhead.
