Geographic Scope: Vermont schools and school districts statewide

Funder: U.S. Small Business Administration through Vermont Small Business Development Center (VtSBDC)

Focus Areas:

• Work-based learning and design thinking
• Engineering and entrepreneurship programs
• Culinary arts expansion and community outreach
• Affordable housing initiatives
• Independent-based learning (IBL) programs
• Support for targeted populations: BIPOC students, rural communities, veterans, women

Award Amounts: $2,500, $5,000, or $7,500 per school

Program Structure: VPA distributed $65,000 total to 13 Vermont schools/districts as part of Community Navigator Pilot Program using "hub and spoke" model

Sample Funded Projects:

• Spaulding High School: Collaboration with Generator and Champlain Valley Educator Development Center for work-based learning with Design Thinking, Engineering and Entrepreneurship focus
• Burlington BTC Culinary Arts: Expansion of pop-up restaurant sites ("Champlain Café") to reach women, BIPOC, and rural areas
• Orange Southwest School District/Randolph Technical and Career Center: Community outreach project building tiny homes for affordable housing
• Hazen Pathways program: Students create Independent Based Learning (IBL) courses with materials, tools, and business owner mentorship
