Community in Conservation Grant Fund

Overview: Annual grant program connecting financial resources with environmental needs across the Delmarva region through support for non-profits and community entities. Supported by proceeds from the annual Waterfowl Festival event. This is the primary conservation funding program for the organization.

Geographic Scope: Maryland, Virginia, and Delaware organizations

Focus Areas: Projects and initiatives at the intersection of conservation and community, recognizing the interconnected roles of science, education, and restoration

Background: Fourth year of program announced in 2021; dozens of organizations supported over past five decades with legacy of education, leadership, and engagement in conservation space. Recent grantees include Ducks Unlimited, Wellington Wildlife Management Area, Phillips Wharf Environmental Center, and ShoreRivers.

Priority Areas

• Initiatives at the intersections of waterfowl conservation and community
• Education programs on Delmarva focusing on current and future generations of conservationists, enthusiasts and educators
• Research and scientific work of graduate students, volunteer groups and non-profits on Delmarva
• Restoration and conservation of projects that benefit waterfowl and regional habitat enhancement in ways that connect with larger bay habitat restoration goals

• Maryland, Virginia, or Delaware based
• Projects must align with Waterfowl Chesapeake's focus areas
• Must make connection between project/initiative, community of people engaged, and waterfowl-related issues
