Community Impact Grants

Overview: United Way of the Brazos Valley's Community Impact Grants invest in nonprofit organizations that provide programs and services aligned with three strategic priority areas: Education, Financial Stability, and Health.

Geographic Scope: Brazos Valley region of Texas (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and/or Washington counties)

Grant Amount: $10,000 - $40,000 annually for a 2-year grant cycle

  • Eligibility Requirements

    Organizations must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code OR units of government

  • Provide IRS tax ID Determination letter

  • Submit all required documentation with application

  • Provide services in the Brazos Valley region (Brazos, Burleson, Grimes, Leon, Madison, Robertson and/or Washington counties)

  • Align with at least one of United Way's goals in Health, Education, and/or Financial Stability

  • Governed by a board that meets at least quarterly with board-approved bylaws and articles of incorporation

  • Have an annual independent audit completed by an independent CPA, OR if annual expenses are under $1,000,000, an annual financial review by an independent CPA

  • Maintain and comply with non-discrimination and anti-terrorism laws

  • Agree and comply with requirements stated in agency funding agreement with United Way of the Brazos Valley

  • Provide 3-Year Average Administrative percentage as requested on application
  • Ineligible Requests

    Community Impact Grants are NOT for:

  • Individuals or scholarships

  • Endowment funds

  • Fundraising activities

  • Short-term events or seminars (2 weeks or less)

  • Political lobbying or legislative activities

  • Capital campaigns
  • Key Considerations

    United Way encourages grant requests for projects or programs that:

  • Are likely to have substantial impact on individuals and families in the Brazos Valley

  • Partner with United Way to provide practical solutions to health, education, and financial stability challenges

  • Actively engage with others in the community to address community challenges

  • Successfully leverage other sources of support (volunteers, funding, community involvement)

  • Are sustainable over time

    How to Apply

    Application Process

    Current Status: Grant applications are closed. Applications will reopen in Fall 2027.

    Recent Cycle (2025):
    1. Applications opened January 14, 2025
    2. Deadline: February 14, 2025 at 5:00 PM
    3. Online portal does not accept applications submitted after the deadline
    4. Community volunteer panel reviews each request
    5. Organizations invited for site visits
    6. Grant allocation committee makes recommendations to Board of Directors
    7. Grant recipients notified shortly thereafter

    Required Steps for Future Applications

    1. Training: All applicants are required to view the application training video in order for their application to be accepted
    2. Complete Application: Submit all required documentation and meet all required criteria
    3. Submit via Online Portal: Applications submitted through the online portal only
    4. Deadlines Strictly Enforced: The portal will not accept applications submitted after the deadline
