Community Grants Program

Funder: Fresno Rotary and the Fresno Rotary Foundation

Geographic Scope: Greater Fresno Community area

Eligibility:

  • Educational organizations

  • Nonprofit charitable organizations

  • Organizations in the greater Fresno area

  • Projects that primarily benefit Fresno residents
  • Grant Focus:

  • Specific projects that can be accomplished in a timely manner

  • Capital equipment

  • Projects making significant impact on youth, the disadvantaged, or underserved community elements

  • New tangible projects (as opposed to well-funded or established projects)

  • Projects under direction of local organizations or local affiliates

  • Projects with proven sustainable benefits
  • What They Do NOT Fund:

  • Individuals

  • Tax-supported governmental agencies (fire, police) — though special projects for public/private schools may be considered

  • Organizations or projects outside the greater Fresno area

  • Administration or ongoing operating expenses (training, debt reduction, computer software, general office equipment)

  • Political projects or those primarily related to political causes

  • Religious organizations for religious purposes

  • Sabbatical leaves or scholarly research

  • Travel, tours, and trips

  • Endowments and memorials

  • Fundraising events and sponsorships
  • Application Timeline:

  • Applications accepted on ongoing basis beginning July 1

  • Subject to fiscal availability of funds

  • Allow up to 90 days for response

  • Grants recommended by Community Projects committee submitted to Fresno Rotary Board of Directors for final approval

  • Some applications reviewed by Rotary Club of Fresno Foundation may take longer
  • Post-Award Requirements:

  • Sign Grant Terms and Conditions agreement and release form

  • Provide written Grant Final Report Form with supporting documentation (receipts, invoices)

  • Grant Final Report required before subsequent grant requests considered

  • Provide appropriate recognition of Fresno Rotary in media releases, social media, and print materials

    Application Requirements

    Required Components:
    1. Brief description of the program and its rationale
    2. Statement of the program's goals and objectives
    3. Brief description of the population to be served
    4. Statement on how you plan to sustain the project/program
    5. Preliminary budget and quotes
    6. Description of the evaluation activities and desired outcomes

    Supporting Documentation Required:

  • Quotes and documentation to support grant request

  • Copy of Pages One, Two, and Part VI (Governance, Management and Disclosure) of most recent IRS Form 990

  • Disclosure of any relationships that might be considered a conflict of interest between requesting organization, its Board of Directors, its management, and Rotary
  • Grant Criteria (must meet one or more):

  • Makes significant impact on youth, the disadvantaged, or underserved community elements

  • For new tangible projects (as opposed to well-funded or well-established projects)

  • For projects in greater Fresno area or primarily benefiting Fresno residents

  • Under direction of local organization or local affiliate

  • For capital equipment

  • Provides proven sustainable benefits continuing long after grant disbursement
