Overview

Community Grants

Funder: United Way of Benton & Franklin Counties

Geographic Scope: Benton & Franklin Counties, Washington

Mission: United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties collaborates to support a foundation for the well-being, safety, and academic success of children, from birth to middle school.

Funding Focus Areas: Programs addressing three priority areas:

Priority Areas

  • Kindergarten Preparedness – Support programs that promote early learning and help local children be prepared for school. 90% of a child's brain is fully developed by age 5. Children who enter kindergarten with all the skills they need to succeed are more likely to read at grade level by 3rd grade and succeed in school.
  • Student Success – Support school attendance and programs that provide students with the support they need to do well in school. Students who regularly attend elementary and middle school are more likely to graduate high school.
  • Basic Needs – Support programs that give children and their caregivers access to basic needs (food, housing, health, safety). It's hard for children and families to focus on early learning and school success when they are struggling to meet basic needs.

Target Population: Children from birth to middle school and their caregivers
