Status: Temporarily suspended

Geographic Scope: South Whidbey Island, Washington (Clinton to Greenbank, approximately 59 square miles)

Program Description: For many years, Goosefoot's grants program has supported friends and neighbors in need, local business growth, and the preservation of uniquely South Whidbey places.

Focus Areas:

  • Food insecurity and access issues (as of 2020 restructuring)
  • Current Status:
    Goosefoot has temporarily suspended this program to focus more fully on fundraising for and supporting affordable housing work through Island Roots Housing (under Goosefoot's fiscal sponsorship).

    Ongoing Funding:
    Goosefoot continues to provide:

  • Annual grants to three named supported organizations:

  • - Whidbey Watershed Stewards
    - Whidbey Island Nourishes
    - South Whidbey@Home
  • Funding to the Essential Needs program

  • Oversight of the Round Up program at the Goose Grocer, which supports a range of nonprofits in the community
  • Program History:

  • Since 2014, Goosefoot has given out more than $1 million to over 35 local nonprofits

  • In 2017 and 2019, donated more than $1 million to 35 local nonprofit organizations through a formalized community grant program

  • In 2020, restructured grant program to support organizations dealing with food insecurity and access issues

  • 2022: Unable to bring back community grant program due to major infrastructure repairs and improvements required on properties and buildings
  • About Goosefoot:
    Goosefoot is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is self-sufficient and no longer relies on outside funding. The organization funds its charitable giving and programs through responsible management of owned properties, including the Goose Community Grocer. All profits are invested back into supporting the mission.
