Selection Process

The CHD Coalition employs a rigorous multi-staged review process:
• Review Committee Composition:
- CHD Board Members - Cardiologists - Pediatric cardiology nurse - Parents of children with CHDs - CHD warriors (individuals with lived experience)
• Process: Careful analysis and discussion of all applications before Board approval

Recent Funded Projects (2016)

1. Valve Prosthesis with Growth – Columbia University Medical Center ($50,000) - Development of mechanically-engineered valved prosthesis that grows with the child - Aims to avoid multiple surgeries and improve quality of life - Novel mechanical concept never previously used in valve prosthesis

2. Molecular Signals in Systemic-Pulmonary Arterial Collateral Vessels – Children's Hospital of Philadelphia ($50,162.32)
- Research on single ventricle heart disease complications
- Understanding causes of collateral vessel formation
- Development of targeted drug therapy
