CFJS prioritizes collaboration, measurable outcomes, and innovative solutions to combat social isolation among Jewish seniors, making it a unique and dedicated resource for improving their quality of life.

Overview

NOTE: Only one application is required for multiple program/project requests. Mission The purpose of CFJS, the new name of BJH Foundation, is to enhance the lives of Jewish seniors residing in North and South Carolina by distributing grants to organizations providing activities, services and programs for Jewish seniors in accordance with Jewish values and beliefs. CFJS also raises funds to increase the resources for their endeavors on behalf of Jewish seniors in the Carolinas. What We Do In 2022, CFJS made grants in support of 50 programs or services at 19 Jewish nonprofits or religious congregations serving Jewish older adults in the Carolinas. CFJS grants range from support of care managers to health and wellness initiatives to combating social isolation and bringing together Jewish community. CFJS is the only private foundation in the Carolinas focused solely on enriching the lives of Jewish seniors. CFJS is a member of the Jewish Funders Network, the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits, and Grantmakers in Aging. Grant Guidelines CFJS is dedicated to enriching the lives of Jewish seniors residing in North and South Carolina communities through programs/projects sharing Jewish values and ideals. CFJS aims to help support programs/projects and services that advance the Foundation’s objectives. These include: Long term community impact Collaboration with other local organizations Participant involvement in social services (volunteer or financial) Applicant organization showing their financial commitment to the program/project Specific qualitative and quantitative outcomes such as numbers served and measurable impact on their lives Uniqueness (non-duplicative of other area programs or services) Competent grant management and program oversight This year CFJS has eliminated the Health and Wellness as well as the Socialization category designations. The following are program/project examples that CFJS seeks to help with financial support. Case Management with a licensed professional or case worker Community building, education and furtherance of Jewish values and ideals Congregational Nurse Dementia or memory impairment Food Distribution Group Day Care and Respite programs Transportation CFJS is open to other innovative approaches

Who Can Receive Support?Organizations in need of funding to enrich the lives of Jewish adults in your community; Organizations serving Jewish adults living in North or South Carolina A 501(C)(3) charitable organization as determined by IRS regulations, unless you are affiliated with another tax-exempt organization such as local government, school or synagogue.

Ineligibility

No grants are made to individuals for any purpose.Awards for ongoing operational support of an organization are very limited and discouraged. Foundation resources cannot be used for:The cost of nursing home care or other residential or medical care costs.Support of substantial construction, renovation, or capital campaigns.Partisan or “for-profit” organizations.Political purposes or contributions.
