CAEF Scholarship Program Overview

The Chambersburg Area Education Foundation (CAEF) has awarded over $2 million in scholarships to CASD students for higher education and training.

Program Details

• Application Window: Opens December 8th annually
• Deadline: March 27th (next deadline: 2027-03-27)
• Eligibility: CASD students (CASHS, CMS, or CVA) pursuing higher education or training at accredited institutions
• Geographic Scope: Primarily Chambersburg Area School District (PA), with some scholarships restricted to Franklin County or specific townships

Award Selection Criteria

Scholarships are awarded based on variety of criteria including:
• GPA
• Field of study
• Financial need
• Challenges overcome
• SAT/ACT scores
• School attendance
• Community service participation
• Extracurricular activity participation

Categories of Scholarships

Two categories exist; only one requires completion of an application. Named scholarships are organized by:
• Area of study (Agriculture, Art & Music, Education, Environmental Science, Health Science, STEM, Religious Vocation)
• Donor type (Alumni Donors, Community & Support Organizations, In Honor or In Memory)

Individual Named Scholarships (Partial List)

Agriculture
• Raymond B. Helman Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) - agriculture field, preference for Greene, Letterkenny, or Lurgan Township residents

Art & Music

Nicholas Allen Hoover Memorial Musical Scholarship ($1,000) - high school instrumental music programs

Madolin Kirkpatrick Wenger Memorial Scholarship (interest on investment) - art/art education

Zion UCC Music & Arts Scholarship (3 @ $3,000) - public performance interest, essay required

Education

David & Louisa Etter Scholarship ($1,000) - teacher candidates, preference for Art or Business Education

Dr. William Robinson & Debra Robinson Bowen Scholarship ($500) - music education or general teacher education

Josephine G. Stouffer Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) - elementary education

Thomas G. Stouffer Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) - secondary education

James R. Taylor Memorial Scholarship ($1,000, renewable) - Shippensburg University education students

Harriet Thompson Memorial Scholarship (interest on investment) - education at Shippensburg University

Conococheague Audubon Society Scholarship ($500) - wildlife/environmental conservation studies

Health Science

Christian Keyes Memorial Scholarship (2 @ $1,000) - pharmacology/health sciences, 3.0+ GPA, community service preference

John L. Shook Foundation Scholarship (4-Year Programs) (8 @ $10,000) - healthcare education, 3.0+ GPA, Franklin County residents

John L. Shook Foundation Scholarship (2-Year Programs) (4 @ $5,000) - associate-level healthcare, 3.0+ GPA, Franklin County residents
