Burt High Scholarship Fund

Official Name: Burt High Reunion Association Joseph B. Roberts, Sr. Endowed Scholarship

Program Background:
Established in 2010 by the Burt High School Alumni Association to promote the attainment of higher education for descendants of Burt High School graduates. Funds are raised annually through the Burt High School Reunion Association.

Award Details:

  • Primary Award: $2,000 (renewable for up to 4 years)

  • Book Award: $250-$500 (non-renewable, one-time, for applicants not selected for primary award, based on funds availability)

  • Renewability: Awards renewable annually for up to 4 years if awardee maintains 2.5 GPA and remains full-time student
  • Eligibility Requirements:
    Applicants must meet ALL of the following criteria:

    1. Ancestry: Be related by kinship to an individual who was enrolled or graduated from Burt High School (verification required). Descendants of Burt High School refer to those persons whose ancestor(s) attended Burt High School.
    - Verification can include: relative name, relationship, and year attended Burt High

    2. Academic Standing: Current high school graduate with minimum 2.5 GPA
    - High school transcript required for verification

    3. Financial Need: Demonstrate financial need
    - Acceptable documentation: EFC code from FAFSA, guardian salary information, or free and reduced lunch documentation

    4. References: Submit two letters of recommendation
    - One from high school teacher, principal, or counselor
    - One from community individual (pastor, coach, or club member) who is a non-relative

    5. College Acceptance: Proof of acceptance to an accredited institution of higher learning
    - Must provide official letter of enrollment or document from the University

    Renewal Requirements:

  • Maintain 2.5 GPA per year

  • Remain enrolled as full-time student

  • Submit formal renewal request with proof of grades and enrollment by July 1st each year

  • Returning applicants must provide proof of grades and enrollment for the following semester
  • Selection:
    Scholarship selection committee of the Burt Reunion Association has full authority in selecting recipients using a rubric comprised of requested applicant information.
