Bronx Recognizes its Own (BRIO)

Overview: For over 36 years, BCA's BRIO Award has recognized artists from a wide range of creative disciplines who demonstrate proficiency, knowledge, and intense practice in their chosen artform. BRIO provides direct support to individual Bronx artists who create works in the literary, media, visual, and performing arts.

Geographic Scope: Bronx-based

Award Amount: $5,000 per recipient

Eligible Applicants:

Individual Bronx-based artists

Must demonstrate proficiency, knowledge, and intense practice in their chosen artform

Artistic Disciplines:

Literary Arts

Media Arts

Visual Arts

Performing Arts

Awardee Diversity: Artists who have received a BRIO award represent the vast diversity of Bronx residents, inclusive of all ethnicities, ages, and genders.

Required Service Component: Artists for Community Enrichment (ACE)

One-time public service activity required of all BRIO recipients

Must be completed within one year of receiving the award

Provides artists with additional visibility

Demonstrates to the Bronx community the wealth of artistic talent available in the borough
