City of Austin Office of Sustainability Our Vision Austin is a thriving, equitable, and ecologically resilient community. Our Mission Protect and improve Austin's quality of life now and for future generations by leading efforts to achieve: Bright Green Future Grants Bright Green Future Grants is a competitive program that provides funding for school-based sustainability projects for Preschools and grades K-12. The program was designed to recognize and support innovative projects that will inspire students to become lifelong environmental stewards. Projects like composting systems, rainwater harvesting, organic gardens, rain gardens, bicycle academies, and wildlife habitats are identified by local educators and through campus EcoAudits. Projects that are selected to receive funding actively engage students and members of the community with hands-on involvement and learning. The program is open to all AISD and Austin area charter and private schools, as well as cities – such as Round Rock and Pflugerville – that utilize services through Austin Energy, Austin Water Utility, or Austin Resource Recovery. Unfortunately, home school classes are unable to apply for grant funding.
