BrickStreet Scholars Program

Purpose: Provides academic scholarships to deserving Shepherd University students.

Established: Created through a $500,000 endowed gift from the BrickStreet Foundation to the Shepherd University Foundation.

About BrickStreet:

  • BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Company assists West Virginia workers and employers

  • Improves medical and compensation benefits for workers injured on the job

  • Reduces costs for employers

  • Created after the privatization of West Virginia's workers' compensation program
  • Award Details:

  • Provides 10 general academic scholarships each year in perpetuity

  • Permanent endowment

  • Based on financial need and grades
  • Eligibility - Primary Preference:

  • Students majoring in math, nursing, or education

  • Children or grandchildren of workers who have experienced work-related injuries or death
  • Eligibility - General:

  • Shepherd University students in good academic standing

  • Financial need

  • Minimum GPA requirements (based on academic merit)
  • Selection Process:

  • BrickStreet will help facilitate selection through a scholarship committee

  • Committee comprised of BrickStreet employees and Shepherd University representatives
  • Geographic Scope: Shepherd University students only
