Background

The Bow Foundation is a volunteer-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit established in April 2017 by two families with children diagnosed with GNAO1 disorders. The foundation has supported over $1 million in GNAO1 research as of 2025.

Disease Impact

Children with GNAO1 disorders experience:
• Severe developmental delays
• Seizures
• Uncontrolled muscle movements (dystonia, dyskinetic crises)
• Movement disorders
• Epilepsy

Grant Administration

As of 2023, the grant program is administered in partnership with the Orphan Disease Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
