Booker T. Jones Scholarship Fund

The Booker T. Jones Scholarship provides financial support to students who graduate from MINACT-run Job Corps programs and plan to enroll at a college or university. Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, and career goals. Additional criteria may apply. The award is $5,000, and students can reapply for four years.

Scholarship Information

Booker T. Jones is the late Founder and President of MINACT, INC. He was a man who constantly desired to help America’s disadvantaged sections of society through education and job training.

Booker Taliaferro Jones, affectionately known as "B.T." was born on September 26, 1943, in Chulahoma (Marshall County), Mississippi. Mr. Jones life touched and inspired many along his journey.

After graduating from Hamilton High School in Memphis, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a navigator during the Vietnam War. Later, he received a degree in sociology from Indiana State University and pursued an additional graduate degree in Business Administration at the University of Evansville.

Mr. Jones passed away on July 27, 2019, in Jackson, Mississippi. His generous spirit lives on through The Booker T. Jones Charitable Fund which was created to help individuals gain access to the tools, education, training, and opportunities they need to fulfill their potential regardless of background or life circumstance

Eligibility

* Must be a U.S. citizen.
* Must have a high school diploma or GED.
* Must be accepted as a full-time undergraduate student at a four-year historically Black college or university (HBCU) and provide a copy of the acceptance letter.
* Must have completed or will complete Technical Training at a Job Corps Center operated by MINACT, INC. Eligible centers include:
* Finch-Henry, Batesville, MS
* Benjamin Hooks, Memphis, Tn
* Shreveport, Shreveport, LA
* Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ
* Gerald Ford, Grand Rapids, MI
* Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI
