Overview

_NOTE: We request you not apply if your event is scheduled more than six months in the future. Due to the timing of our grant cycles, please allow up to 120 days to receive a charitable donation decision._

Community Giving

Strong, vibrant communities are our lifeblood, and we invest our time and resources so they can grow and aim even higher.

If your organization would like to apply for event sponsorship or for a charitable contribution, fill out the application and submit it, along with any supporting documentation.

You can submit a request at any time of the year. We do not accept contribution requests over the phone.

We support requests that align with our key giving priorities:

* Responsible energy and environmental stewardship
* Education and workforce development
* Strong communities
* Helping people

Eligibility

* Our Charitable Giving Program at Black Hills Energy awards contributions or sponsorships to eligible applicants that are:
* 501(c)(3) organizations (recognized as tax-exempt by the IRS)
* schools or school districts.

Ineligibility

* We request you not apply if your event is scheduled more than six months in the future.
* NOT eligible for charitable funding from Black Hills Energy:
* 501c4 organization (social welfare organizations and civic leagues, which are not tax deductible because of engagement in political activities)
* 501c6 organizations (Chambers, economic development organizations and boards of trade)
* However, if you are a Chamber or economic development organization or other tax-exempt organization, please reach out to the Community Affairs manager(s) in your state, as you may be eligible for other funding, just not through our charitable giving program.
* Types of requests we generally do not fund include:
* Requests benefitting individuals, a single family, or team/group
Athletic, labor, fraternal requests\
* Runs/walks/teams/golf/sporting tournaments (unless they tie to a key focus area of Black Hills Energy like economic development, energy assistance or United Way)
* Requests to fund endowments
* Regional/national organizations without a local chapter
* Requests to cover travel costs
* Requests related to a specific illness or disease
* Groups representing a conflict of interest for Black Hills Energy
* Political causes, candidates or campaigns or organizations with a primary purpose of influencing legislation
