Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1945, Sweet Adelines started as a small group of women who loved to sing. Since then, it has evolved into an organization that spans the globe connecting thousands of singers around the world in song. We’re dedicated to preserving the unique sound of a cappella barbershop harmony, sharing our passion for music and empowering our community in every area of their lives. Bev Sellers Memorial Scholarship Named in honor of a beloved former president of the organization, this scholarship was established to aid young singers pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Pedagogy, Music Education, or Music Composition at a four-year university. Each scholarship recipient will receive $5,000 USD to help cover tuition and fees.

Eligibility

Applicant must be involved in barbershop activities or affiliated with Sweet Adelines International for a minimum of one year or be involved in a Sweet Adelines chorus or regionally sponsored young women’s barbershop events for a minimum of one year.If applicable, the applicant is a member of a Sweet Adelines International chorus or quartet and in good standing with both their local chorus and the International organization.Student is an undergraduate music education, vocal pedagogy or music composition major at a four- year college or university and can provide verification of enrollment.The grade point average at the time of application reflects a minimum 3.5 GPA.On the application, the applicant must demonstrate notable interest in their chosen field of study, as well as promise, success, and recognition in that field.Applicant can provide three signed, positive letters of reference, including a letter from their chorus president or director if they are a member of a Sweet Adelines chorus, or a letter from a Sweet Adelines coach if they are in a quartet.Recommendations must be consistent with emphasis on commitment, dedication and passion for their chosen field of study in addition to academic intelligence, musical talent and leadership abilities.The selection committee looks at details of Sweet Adelines experience as referenced by candidate’s president, director, or coach.Financial need is not considered.
