Berrada Tenants Program - Short-Term Rent Assistance

Geographic Scope: Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Berrada Properties rental units only)

Focus Areas: Eviction prevention, emergency rent assistance

Purpose

Provides short-term rent assistance to Berrada Properties tenants who have experienced financial hardship or loss of income and are at risk of eviction due to unpaid rent.

Program Components

The Berrada Properties Tenant Eviction Diversion Program offers three options:

1. Payment Plan: Available if applicant is one month or less behind on rent
2. Short-Term Rent Assistance: Available for applicants who have experienced financial hardship or loss of income and are low-income
3. Move-Out Agreement: Available if staying in unit is not an option; allows move-out within 14 days to avoid eviction on record

Eligibility Criteria for Rent Assistance

• Be no more than one month behind on rent
• Be 18 years or older
• Be a leaseholder of a Berrada Properties rental unit
• Have experienced a verifiable loss of income in the past 30–90 days
• Have verifiable current income
• Meet program income guidelines

How to Apply

1. Visit the Milwaukee Rental Housing Resource Center for eligibility assessment
   • Location: Community Advocates, 728 N. James Lovell Street, Milwaukee, WI
   • No appointment necessary
2. Walk-In Clinic Hours:
   • Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
3. Bring Required Documentation:
   • All eligibility documentation
   • Income support documentation
   • Proof of rental unit lease with Berrada Properties
   • Documentation of income loss (past 30-90 days)
   • Verification of current income
