Background: Essentia Health has a more than 20-year history of investing in communities across their service area. In FY23, Essentia Health contributed more than $1.7 million dollars to 140 non-profit organizations.

Priority Focus Areas

Essentia Health prioritizes contributions to non-profit organizations working to address social determinants of health in four key priority areas:

1. Economic Stability (Housing, Workforce, Childcare, Healthy Food)
- Example: Brewery Creek – a 52-unit affordable housing apartment complex in partnership with One Roof Community Housing
- Supporting SOAR Career Solutions' Subsidized Employment Services
- Increasing child-care efforts in Fosston with Prairie Pines Childcare Center
- Supporting access to fresh, healthy foods at farmers markets in Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Duluth & Grand Rapids

2. Access to Education and Healthy Youth Development (Reduction of adverse childhood experiences (ACES) and asset building for youth)
- Example: CornerStone Community and Youth Center in Frazee
- Technology Hub for students in Deer River
- Building resilience and community through youth mentorship programming with Mentor North
- After School educational support and summer camps for New American Youth in Fargo with South Sudanese Foundation

3. Access to Right Time, Right Place Healthcare (Increase access to comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services)
- Example: Free youth dental services with Just Kids Dental, Chum's Health and Wellness Center

4. Neighborhood Improvements that Promote Health and Safety (neighborhood and environmental changes)
- Example: City of Ashland East End Park Rehabilitation Project

  • Must work to achieve goals aligned with the four priority areas
