Optimizing Behavioral Health Access

Overview: The Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation facilitates convenings of community partners to energize community efforts to improve local mental healthcare systems. These grant-funded events provide opportunities to leverage available resources and encourage collaboration to achieve greatest impact in mountain communities.

Status: Active, with initial pilot phase followed by replication model

Geographic Scope: Alterra Mountain Company and Ikon Pass communities in U.S. and Canada, including: Alta Ski Area, Alyeska Resort, Arapahoe Basin, Aspen Snowmass, Big Bear Mountain Resort, Big Sky Resort, Blue Mountain (Ont.), Blue Mountain Resort (PA), Boyne Mountain, Brighton, Camelback Resort, CMH Heli Skiing & Summer Adventures, Copper Mountain, Crystal Mountain, Cypress Mountain, Deer Valley Resort, Eldora Mountain Resort, The Highlands, Killington-Pico, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, June Mountain, Loon Mountain, Mammoth Mountain, Mt. Purpose: To improve local mental healthcare systems and develop strategic plans for each community

Target Participants:

    Facilitate convenings of community partners to:

  • Introduce/review community health system best practices

  • Identify redundancies and gaps in care

  • Identify funding opportunities for:

  • - Treatment scholarships
    - Mental health professionals
    - Peer navigators
    - Other resources
  • Explore creative contracting opportunities with providers

  • Develop strategies to build local behavioral health workforce
  • Expected Outcomes

    Impact Goals:

  • Energize community efforts to improve local mental health care systems

  • Achieve greatest impact for each community

  • Develop strategic plans assessing local strengths and weaknesses

  • Start or reinvigorate community efforts to improve mental healthcare
