The Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond The Community Foundation of Richmond is a philanthropic organization dedicated to improving quality of life across the Richmond region by connecting people, ideas, and resources for lasting community impact. The Foundation manages charitable funds, supports local nonprofits, and leads strategic initiatives that address community priorities such as education, health, economic opportunity, and equity. Through grantmaking, donor services, and community leadership, the Foundation works to strengthen nonprofits, respond to emerging needs, and build a more resilient, inclusive, and thriving Richmond-area community. Barry D. Koval Memorial Scholarship The Koval Family Scholarship was established in 2005 by Patte and Barry Koval to support post-secondary educational scholarships for qualifying college bound Richmond-area minority students in need of financial assistance. The scholarship was renamed in 2015 to honor Barry who died of a brain tumor in January 2015. Barry’s life exemplified the characteristics desired for scholarship recipients - dedication, hard work, strength of character and a love for people and helping them. Recipients may be graduating high school seniors, or adults interested in furthering their education. Adult learners must be 21 or older to apply. Scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate financial need, good moral character, involvement in their community and a commitment to learning.
