Overview

Assistive Technology Reutilization Grant

Funder: Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST)

Geographic Scope: Florida (statewide)

Purpose: To increase reutilization services for Floridians who have disabilities throughout the state by supporting activities that exchange, repair, recycle, or otherwise reuse assistive technology devices.

    Award Details

  • Amount: $5,000 - $10,000 depending on region
  • Funding Period: October 1 - September 30 (12 months)
  • Geographic Limitation: Only one grant per geographical area

Eligible Reutilization Activities

Device Exchange: Listing devices in "want ad"-type postings to FAAST's AT Classifieds, allowing consumers to contact owners directly. No warehousing, sanitation, or refurbishing involved.

Device Reassignment and Refurbishment: Accept devices (usually by donation), sanitize/refurbish as needed, then redistribute via sale, loan, rental, or donation. Consumer becomes permanent owner.

Device Repair: Repair devices for individuals without ownership change, helping owners avoid purchasing new devices.

    Eligibility Requirements

  • Organization Type: Must be a nonprofit organization
  • Location: Must be based in Florida
  • Current Operations: Must currently have a reutilization program or similar program
  • Preference: Organizations led by or employing individuals who have disabilities

    Reporting Requirements

    Services provided must be reported quarterly to:
  • Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR)
  • Administration for Community Living (ACL)
  • Should be considered additional services to any program currently funded by VR or ACL

Regional Grants (2023)

Central Panhandle: $5,000 (Counties: Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Washington, Bay, Calhoun, Franklin)

Capital Region: $5,000 (Counties: Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor)

4. Describe the reutilization services that will be provided with this funding
5. Provide a quantitative goal for each service (to be reported quarterly)
6. Approximately how many people will be helped and with what kind(s) of outreach effort(s)?

Reporting: Grant recipients must report results quarterly to FAAST
