Program Description

Formalized mentorship initiative providing ASPN members with a centralized mechanism to identify and request mentorship in various areas. Mentorship matches made at society level with individual matchmaking at committee level.

Program Highlights

• Duration: One year (January 1 - December 31)
• Meeting Frequency: Mentors and mentees encouraged to meet at least twice yearly (virtually or in-person)
• Venue Options: Meetings at major events like PAS and ASN
• Membership Requirement: Exclusive benefit for ASPN members

Mentorship Categories

1. Acute Care: Pairs acute care nephrology directors and experts with junior faculty/senior fellows planning to be or new to acute care nephrology director roles
2. Division Directors: Connects division directors from different institutions for support and guidance
3. Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI): For all interested in pediatric nephrology, prioritizing trainees and junior faculty from historically excluded and underrepresented groups
4. Member Education: Develops medical education skills through participation in educational activities
5. Research: Pairs individuals interested in pursuing research with expert mentors (basic, clinical, translational)
6. Nephrologists in Small Group Settings: Special interest group providing educational webinars, case discussions, and support for nephrologists with limited colleagues
7. Workforce: Career planning, professional development, promotion/tenure navigation for early career faculty, residents, and fellows
